October 2020 Donation

This month, we wanted to shoutout our student Bruno and his mom Chelsea who met through Helping Strays:

"Helping Strays puts almost all of their pets with fosters so they can get used to living in a home and be social. I loved that. Once I met Bruno, I knew he was the one. He came right up to me and snuggled in my arms. I contacted Helping Strays that day to submit an application. They were awesome to work with. They set up for me to come pick him up soon after I was approved. During the first couple months of having him, Helping Strays would call me periodically to check in and ask how I was doing with Bruno. They also paid for him to be neutered and for most of those puppy shots! He was/is my first puppy and I felt so supported by Helping Strays. They were always available if I had any questions. Bruno has been one of the best things to ever happen in my life and I often wonder who rescued who!"

A little about the shelter:

September 2020 Donation

September’s donation went to Open Door Animal Sanctuary. We wanted to acknowledge this shelter’s work with homeless and neglected animals in the local community. They currently have dogs and cats available for adoption in St. Louis.

A little about the shelter:

“Open Door Animal Sanctuary, founded in 1975, is the largest no-kill shelter in the greater St. Louis area and State of Missouri. Open Door’s Mission is to provide homeless cats and dogs with the highest quality of life and a second chance to find a forever family.

We serve the community by taking in stray, abused, neglected and otherwise unwanted cats and dogs and placing them up for adoption. Each day we provide shelter, food, medical care and LOVE to more than 350 animals. Every animal that comes to us has a home and a second chance at life.”

August 2020 Donation

For the month of August, this donation went to Five Acres Animal Shelter. We wanted to recognize all that this shelter continues to do even with the hardships that COVID-19 has brought and as they expand further in the St. Charles area.

A little about the shelter:

“Five Acres Animal Shelter is the only no-kill animal shelter in St. Charles County, Missouri. We do NOT euthanize our animals to make room for new ones. The dogs and cats in our care stay as long as needed until they find their forever home.”

Thank you to all of my clients who allowed me the opportunity to make this donation.

July 2020 Donation

For July, the monthly donation went to the St. Louis Senior Dog Project. We wanted to support their mission of rescuing and finding homes for dogs of older age.

A little about the shelter:

“The St. Louis Senior Dog Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the state of Missouri. We are an all volunteer organization that rescues dogs of all ages but especially dogs 5 years of age and older.

We actively promote the adoption of older dogs. We spay/neuter all dogs, bring them up to date with shots, worming, microchipping and heartworm prevention. We provide our dogs with all necessary veterinary care, including treatment for such things as heartworm disease, kennel cough, pneumonia, intestinal parasites, urinary tract infections, fleas and ticks, and dental care.”

June 2020 Donation

For the month of June, this donation went to The American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Their main objectives of ending animal homelessness and preventing animal cruelty are greatly important and affect animals everywhere. We wanted to acknowledge all that they have done to help animals by preventing inhumane factory farming in recent months.

A little about ASPCA:

“The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) was the first humane society to be established in North America and is, today, one of the largest in the world.

Our organization was founded on the belief that animals are entitled to kind and respectful treatment at the hands of humans and must be protected under the law. Headquartered in New York City, the ASPCA maintains a strong local presence, and with programs that extend our anti-cruelty mission across the country, we are recognized as a national animal welfare organization. We are a privately funded 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, and are proud to boast more than 2 million supporters across the country”

For the month of May, the donation went to Whispering Willows Senior Dog Sanctuary.

Many people are afraid to face death and fail to plan for their pets future. Death, or sudden tragedy, can be a frightening reality and this is one of the reasons Whispering Willows exists. WWSDS is a 501c3 non profit and licensed in the state of Missouri. Most shelters do not have the provisions to care for seniors. We assist the community locally and nationwide by filling this gap.

“Whispering Willows is a place to call home,” said Valerie Reid, the President. WWSDS is a lifetime sanctuary providing shelter, medical care, and most of all love until the senior dog passes. The rescue specializes in end of life hospice care for seniors that have a short time to live, allowing some to experience love for the very first time.

April 2020 Donation

For the month of April, this donation went to Carol House Quick Fix Clinic. With the recent financial hardships from Covid-19 and the increase in pet adoptions, I felt this was a good choice for this month’s donation. The clinic offer low cost spay and neutering.

The Saint Louis Metropolitan Spay Neuter and Wellness Clinic began in August 2010 as a 501(c)3 non-profit for the purpose of establishing programs and policies that will decrease the number of unwanted dogs and cats euthanized in Saint Louis each year. Because of the proven effectiveness of low-cost spay/neuter clinics in other cities, they are certain it will work in our area. But, they need our help!

As the St. Louis Metropolitan area has a serious pet overpopulation problem, in which over 20,000 adoptable pets are euthanized annually, it is their goal to reduce this number dramatically, or eliminate euthanasia entirely as a solution to the problem.

Thank you to all of my clients who allowed me the opportunity to make this donation.

March 2020 Donation

For the month of March, this donation is going to Bi-State Pet Food Pantry. Unfortunately, many families are forced to surrender their pets due to unforeseen circumstances like this pandemic. That’s why Sandy and Kylie made it their mission to ensure that their families would be able to feed their pets. They began distributing pet food on the stoop of a small restaurant, and in August 2010, they gave out more than 300 pounds of pet food at their first distribution. Fast forward seven years, and we now assist an average of 200 families each month. In 2017, we distributed over 186,000 pounds of food.

Bi-State Pet Food Pantry operates solely on volunteers’ time and efforts with six board members and nearly 50 volunteers. When families fall on hard times, the are here to help people care for their four legged family members!

Consider donating to this wonderful organization at a time where families and their pets need it.

February 2020 Donation

For the month of February, this donation went to Speak St. Louis inspired by my clients who just adopted a deaf dog from this rescue who is thriving due to the help of a dog trainer (not me!) who has taught him sign language.

Speak St. Louis is a 501(c)3 foster-based Australian Shepherd rescue specializing in double merle awareness. We are passionate about helping all Aussies and Border Collies, including those born with hearing and vision impairments as a result of merle to merle breeding.

The term “double merle” refers to a dog bred by two merle colored parents. Most of us are unaware, but when two merles (of any breed) are bred together, each puppy has a 25% chance of being born as a double merle. Common breeds with the merle trait include: Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, Catahoula Leopard, Chihuahua. Collie, Dachshund, & Great Dane just to name a few. Born with excessive white coloration, these dogs are known to have eye abnormalities, hearing impairments or sometimes even both. Double Merle puppies are often dumped into shelters or left to fend for themselves by careless breeders.

As a rescue, here is where our motto comes into play “We See Possibilities, Not Disabilities”. Although impaired, these dogs are capable of living perfectly normal lives with the help of those who believe in them. They’re intelligent, happy, and do not know life any other way than the way they were born. Just like any other “normal” dog all they need is love, patience & dedication.

January 2020 Donation

For the month of January and in celebration of the Super Bowl win, our donations will go to Athlete for Animals.

A4A is an educator, networker and fundraiser to help support companion animals. By utilizing resources from Adopt-A-Pet.com, the nation’s largest non-profit pet-related search engine, they are able to help match Athlete Ambassadors with a variety of local animal shelters and rescue groups within their cities. Across the country, athletes volunteer with these established organizations to help them with public events, fundraisers, and more.

They also believe there is great power in education. The Athlete Ambassadors broadcast the messages of pet adoption, the benefits of spaying/ neutering and responsible pet ownership. Getting accurate information to the public, so they can make informed decisions regarding their animals, will lead us to a manageable pet population.

In addition, the athletes can have a great impact on younger generations by setting good examples and sharing the facts, so these future decision makers will become more compassionate and humane when caring for companion animals.

December 2019 Donation

For the month of December, our donation went to The Feral Companion dedicated to one of our students (Ginger) who was rescued by this organization. Ginger was a very shy and timid dog before she started training and now she is thriving with her new mom.

The Feral Companion is a no-kill organization. The group is very unique. They cater to all of those pups that take a long time to rehabilitate. In many shelters, there is no time for lengthy rehabilitation and sometimes workers lack experience with these shy dogs.

They specialize in feral, shy, and special needs dogs. They want to help as many as they can that sometimes get overlooked in kill shelters.

They do not want to keep all of this information to ourselves so we provide classes for the public, volunteers, and staff at shelters. This will be available to anyone across the nation.

November 2019 Donation

October 2019 Donation

For the month of October, our donations went to Bi-State Pet Food Pantry. Learn more about this awesome organization!

Our founders, Sandy and Kylie, both had careers in social work and public relations. With the declining economy, they witnessed the need for charity every day. However, they couldn’t help noticing that while there were many organizations providing assistance to families in need of food, clothing, and housing, one family member in particular was continually overlooked – the family pet.

Unfortunately, many families are forced to surrender their pets due to unforeseen circumstances. That’s why Sandy and Kylie made it their mission to ensure that their families would be able to feed their pets. They began distributing pet food on the stoop of a small restaurant, and in August 2010, they gave out more than 300 pounds of pet food at their first distribution. August 2019 Donation

For the month of August, the donation went to Wings of Rescue who is making an impact in the lives of pets rescued during hurricane season.

Too many pets and not enough homes is always the excuse. Wings of Rescue is working around the clock to change this mindset by providing desperately needed air transport for thousands of pets from overcrowded high intake shelters where bad things are liable to happen to shelters with plenty of empty kennel space and adopters waiting. No pet transported on a Wings of Rescue flight can be euthanized nor can any pet be euthanized to make room for a Wings of Rescue transferred pet.

June 2019 Donation

For the month of June, our donations go to The Senior Dog Project. I was inspired by a new client of mine to make this donation. Bunches is an 8 year old, Shih Tzu mix who has had a rough go of it. She was rescued from animal control anxiety ridden and covered in fleas. Lucky for her, Kari, her new mom saw through the dirt and grime into the eyes of a sweet soul. Honey Bunches of Os is now living her best life and learning new things in her training class. Thank you Senior Dog Project for finding a forever home for this sweet girl.

Needy Paws Rescue, located in St. Louis, MO, is devoted to saving animals in need, whose lives are in danger at high kill animal shelters & animal controls, those who are strays, have been abandoned or owner surrenders, regardless of their size or breed. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit rescue ran entirely on donations.

Our organization is made up of Volunteers who have been involved in various animal rescues in the St. Louis area and we plan to use our knowledge & experience to make a difference. We believe spaying & neutering is a very important step in keeping pets healthy & happy, plus it helps decrease overpopulation. All of our rescued animals will be spayed or neutered, they will be microchipped to ensure they are identifiable if lost or stolen and they will be current on all of their vaccinations before going to their Forever Homes.

We are foster-based and all pets stay in approved Foster Homes that have passed inspections, reference checks and are qualified to take care of our rescued animals while they wait for their Forever Family. We are dedicated to finding the best Forever Homes, and will be making home visits and conducting veterinarian checks & reference checks to ensure the pets will have a safe, loving, happy home. Forever Families will be taught how to care for their pet and learn how to get the most out of their relationship with their new family member.

PAWS strives to ensure that clients do not experience the loss of pets due to financial hardship, lack of transportation, or hospitalization. They also do their best so that the expenses of caring and keeping a pet do not jeopardize the health and well-being of our clients.

Pets are truly a source of unconditional love and support that is irreplaceable to all, especially those living with chronic illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, and other immune-compromising conditions.
