First, I would like to thank Wagamama’s on Macklind for connecting me to Pet Impact Training! Wagamama’s is a local dog inspired coffee shop + dog park. We visit Wagamama’s often and saw that every second Wednesday of the month they hold an event called “ask the trainer.” We had been looking around at different trainers in the St. Louis area so this was the perfect opportunity for us to meet and ask questions to a local trainer. Sadie and YOUR impact Sadie and I have been talking about how we can best share the "impact" Jennifer Mauer's training had on us. I found this little pup, about 3-4 weeks old in the woods alone. My husband and I had sworn off dogs for our future plans included quite a bit of traveling and sailing but that has all now changed, as we knew it would the moment neither one of us could drive this pup to the shelter. While I think I know how to train a puppy to be a sweet companion, it wasn't long before Sadie was a growing, feeling confident and safe, and driving me crazy..call Jennifer! Sadie and I did virtual training with Jennifer that gave the most perfect foundation that has now bloomed. Teaching with love, consistency and being positive..all the things Jennifer taught us, made sure I was practicing, and kept us on track. Jennifer was able to view and correct me, which has now led to the best relationship I've every had with any dog (this is my 5th). Sadie has settled in with us as the most adorable part of our family. She is happy, confident (which Jennifer instilled) and I only have to look at Sadie and she gets my communication. To have had this opportunity with Jennifer was a blessing; she became our savior (really for Sadie because I was getting frustrated). We live way out in the country (in Virginia) and the closest training facility is 45 min drive, which is not practical for us and I would not otherwise had the opportunity to get the one on one that made all the difference in the world. I had been watching training videos and since Sadie's a beagle was under the impression I had a very stubborn dog breed but was quickly corrected for Jennifer's approach to training is unique and to have her guidance was invaluable. We are blessed to have Sadie, but it would not have worked out so beautifully if it had not been for Jennifer Mauer! We can't wait to come and meet you personally, Jennfier! I got my Shiba Inu puppy at 8 wks old and we started training with Jennifer when my puppy turned 10 weeks old. Jennifer did an amazing job and Pippa (my puppy) LOVED her! Jennifer was very patient with me as well as Pippa since she is my first animal. Jennifer’s training is very thorough and I’m constantly getting compliments at how well behaved Pippa is and everyone’s baffled that I had a 12 week old pup walking on a leash!!! We have Jennifer to thank for that! Jennifer also has an intermediate training program and an advanced program. Pippa will be doing both with her as she has certainly earned our trust as well as our puppy’s !!!

Jen is truly amazing and I highly recommend her! Her passion and love for dogs truly shows from the moment you meet her! I live in a loft, got a 9 week year old pup and had no idea how to tackle potty training or really training a dog. With Jen’s pre-puppy class a lot of my questions and doubts were put to ease. As far as training goes, my pup was always excited to see her and train. Her use of positive reinforcement for training is amazing, effective and has given me the chance to truly bond with my pup. My sister and I found Jen at the perfect time! Our 10 month old dog Henry ruled the house and we were having some issues with his manners (jumping, tugging on the leash, etc.). Jen helped us see that we babied our puppy a little too long, and she helped us show him who’s boss in the most loving way possible (aka hotdogs and treats). The positive reinforcement really worked because in 5 weeks Henry turned his life around. He is now a (near) perfect gentleman and received the honor of “most improved” at his graduation. My favorite part of training was teaching him how to loose leash walk . . no more tugging! Jen really cares about her clients and is much more than a trainer…she helped us get Henry out of crate training, gave us tips on how to socialize him with other dogs and people and even recommended a day care in the area. She makes herself available for questions at any point so her training experience is super personalized. Can’t recommend her enough!

My daughter was excited to finally get a puppy but this excitement quickly turned to fear. Our rambunctious Ele was more than we expected. As puppy do, she was play biting and my daughter was her favorite playmate. Thus led to me doing everything while my daughter locked herself in the room. We started working with Jen and not only was our puppy trained with love, so were we. My daughter participated in sessions and her confidence and interaction with Ele has increased tremendously. She now comes home from school excited to play with Ele and give her lots of cuddles. I recommend PetImpact to build or improve their relationship with their dog.

Jennifer has been an amazing trainer! When we first got our puppy, I wish we had known how much more helpful a trainer is than books or online posts. Everything was so much easier after we started working with Jennifer! She was able to walk us through training. Moreover, she was always there when we had questions about our puppy. It was so helpful to have someone tell us what was typical, how to help minimize certain behaviors (e.g., play biting), and how to keep our dog happy and healthy. We constantly get compliments on how well trained our puppy is now, and we feel so much more connected to him since we went through Jennifer’s program. She is amazing!!!

Amazing with my puppy Kash. She taught us how to communicate with each other better. My puppy went from using the bathroom in the house everyday to ringing the bell when he wants to go out. Along with many other talents like coming to me when i tell him, sitting, laying, leaving stuff alone and many more that make an overall great pet. Very professional, timely, and organized and always responsive when i have questions. Not only did she love him but he loved her! Can’t wait to take the intermediate class!

Jen is an AMAZING trainer. Our puppy has mastered so many important phrases. The other day on a walk she came upon a chicken bone someone didn't discard properly, and she was chewing on it when we noticed. We told her to "Drop it", and immediately she did. The "Leave it" phrase is also so helpful. Jen doesn't train dogs, she trains humans on how best to communicate with their dogs! We practice with Mayzie every day and are so grateful for these classes.

Also, Mayzie was too little compared to the other puppies in her class. Jen really cares about the culture of the classroom, because it is VITAL that all the dogs work well together for training to take place effectively. She asked us if we could do a different class, and she even CREATED a specific class for our pup and added a few others to it. She went above and beyond for our girl to feel comfortable and confident during class.

We are newlyweds and do not have a big income, and we talk frequently about how grateful we are that we spent money to take this class, even though we had to manage our resources differently that month. Jen also has the most reasonable rates in the St. Louis area. I honestly could not recommend more!

Jen helped us so much with our puppy. We did a one on one beginner class and we plan on doing the intermediate class and tricks class. She helped us with a few issues we couldn’t figure out how to handle and we’ve seen a big difference in our puppy’s behavior. She’s obviously such a huge dog lover and treats every dog like her own. Her approach is wonderful, and you train with the idea of communicating with your dog. Couldn’t recommend more.

I can't say enough good about Jennifer and PetImpact. I adopted Jack (rescue) in June and got him into the puppy/beginner class. I was honestly expecting a hands off approach as I've seen with some other beginner classes and it was far from it. Class size was small and it made for a great experience where we got ample 1 on 1 time. Pricing was very reasonable for the time investment and Jennifer was willing to answer any of my dog behavior questions outside of class. We learned way more commands that I thought and the positive reinforcement training style was exactly what I was looking for. Positive reinforcement has shown time and time again to be the best way to train anyone and anything (no ones favorite teacher/professor/coach was the one who was always yelling at you). We will be using PetImpact from here on out.

When our 4 month old poodle was giving us difficulty with nipping and biting a friend recommended Jennifer from Pet Impact to us. We live in North Dakota and all of our sessions were done 100% online. Jennifer has been AMAZING working with me, my 6 year old daughter, and of course our sweet poodle! I don’t feel like we missed out on anything by not being in person. The training and support has been spectacular and we are so happy with all our puppy has learned!! I called Jennifer the first week of January when I brought home my puppy. We immediately got to work the following week. I just completed Jennifer’s 5-week puppy class held at Wolfgang’s. Her warm, positive approach to working with your dog makes so much sense, fitting with why one gets a dog in the first place. Jennifer really made a connection with our little 10 week old Maggie Mae. We decided on private lessons to start Maggie’s training and she did very well, as there were minimum distractions. Jennifer emphasized both verbal commands along with hand signals that Maggie picked up on quickly. PetImpact! helped us build the bond that has become the foundation of our fur family. As first time dog parents our concerns revolved more about the 'big' things: How do we keep Bindi happy and healthy? What is 'normal' and what should we 'expect' over time? What type of behaviors do we want to encourage and how to keep it all FUN! In addition to the big questions, we also needed help with the normal stuff: leash walking, barking, jumping, socialization etc. What Jennifer taught us was (to always have a stock of hot dogs and also) how to build a more meaningful, more loving relationship with Bins.... everything else just flowed from there.

We adopted Lily, our Great Pyrenees/Siberian Husky mix, when she was fourteen months old. Lily had lived in at least three shelters/foster homes in at least two states when we met her. Also, she'd just weaned a litter of pups several days earlier. Lily was underweight and anxious, evidenced by the raw patches on her coat: she repeatedly scratched and chewed at her sides. Nonetheless, she stole our heart. When she entered the meeting area at the shelter, she came straight to me and my husband, greeting us with nuzzles and longing gazes into our eyes. We took her home that day. Despite her loving temperament, Lily had puppy habits we didn't want to encourage. When we stood, she stretched the full length of her body along us and balanced her paws on our shoulders. When we sat, she repeatedly pawed our legs. When we walked in our yard, she jumped on us. When we walked her on a leash, she dragged us down the sidewalks. She rarely responded to our direction. In short, Lilly was a rambunctious puppy who was out of control. Enter Jen Maurer of Pet Impact. In our first meeting, Lily took to Jen immediately; within the space of an hour Lily was responding to her directions. Jen explained to us that dogs have language and it's our job to connect to that language. Over the next two weeks, we practiced the cues Jen taught us to give Lily. We were surprised and delighted that Lily quickly began to "hear" us and respond. Now she follows our directions: sit, come, wait, stay, down, and more. She no longer jumps on us, drags us on the leash, or paws us. As she's relaxed into our home, Lily's gained weight and regrown her beautiful double coat. And best of all, she still nuzzles us and stares deep into our eyes--and our hearts. We couldn't love her more. Thank you, Jennifer Maurer, for helping Lily be part of our family!

I never leave reviews on anything but I have to praise Jen and PetImpact. I decided to adopt during quarantine and I was in over my head. I found PetImpact and Jen worked with us both over Zoom and in person and both kinds of training sessions provided results. And one of the biggest improvements we made was loose leash walking and I was amazed at how quick we were able to pick it up. But don’t be surprised, Jen asks you to do homework and you have to put in the work to earn the results. And the individualized write ups after each session were perfect too.

Jen is amazing! We had basic puppy classes at Petsmart but Jen though us things we never knew. Trigger words, loose leash walking, tricks, positive reinforcement. Jen does it all and with private classes, it’s perfect. We cannot recommend Jen enough!

My husband and I took our new Chihuhua Indy to Jennifer to begin his puppy training when he was 4 months old. He was a skittish puppy which was so different from our older Chihuahua. Over time with Jennifer’s gentle coaching, he began to trust people other than myself and Bob. After we completed puppy basics, we decided to go onto additional training and bring his 10 year old “sister” Dolly along for a refresher course. I believe the dogs enjoyed the classes as much as we did. There is such a difference in dogs that have been properly trained with positive reinforcement instead of a choke chain or other painful treatments. We have happy, well behaved dogs thanks to Jennifer. I know Jennifer falls in love with each and every pet she works with and the pet and parents become part of her pack. We still keep in touch and she is very interested in how we and Dolly and Indy are doing.

My husband and I adopted Clyde and his sister Bonnie, both chihuahuas, from Mid Rivers Shelter. Clyde and Bonnie were abandoned in a trailer and adopted out twice (returned both times within a few days) before they came to live with us. Needless to say, they suffered from extreme separation anxiety, tremendous surplus of energy as well as very little control.

My husband and I made modifications in our home to work with their needs. However, both of them would lunge and bark at people, tug and pull on the leashes.  Therefore, we recognized we needed more. We decided to enroll Clyde into Jennifer’s training class. Upon arriving our first day, I explained Clyde’s background to Jennifer. From day one Jennifer took a very caring yet firm approach both with our pet and ourselves. When one of us was having difficulty with an execution of a command, she would intercede and work with Clyde one on one. Through both her delivery and homework assignments, we began to see a noticeable change in Clyde’s behavior. In addition, we learned that what you say is equally important as how you say it. Although our objective was to learn and execute, our class was also fun for both Clyde and ourselves. Jennifer’s love of animals is clear and was demonstrated by her warm and attentive show of affection when appropriate.

Clyde now walks on a loose leash, sits upon command, stays, leaves an object and can give a high five. Before training I felt as though I was changing a lock with oven mitts. After training I now have a toll set to make the job much easier. Thank you for enhancing our lives resulting in a healthier relationship and rewarding time together.

When we adopted a rescue, Jen was the clear choice of where to start. She not only did an amazing job making a connection with our new puppy, but also really facilitated us to make a better connection along the way. After trying to train our new puppy for the first few months, we felt like we weren’t making the progress we should have been. What lacked was the patience and progressions. During the beginner class, Jennifer was great at demonstrating and offering constructive feedback for us. My wife and I would highly recommend dog training with PetImpact!

We had 2 Labrador retrievers. Jennifer taught me so much! So many great tips, and hands on training. The fact that she comes to your house, on the dogs turf, is key! She is always available to answer any questions, between appointments, too! We highly recommend her services.

Jennifer was the best trainer. She was kind, caring, knowledgeable and loving. Hazel is a much better dog due to Jennifer’s training techniques. I would highly recommend her.

Jennifer was a wonderful instructor to our 8 month old golden retriever. She helped us practice and learn new commands in the beginner class which have greatly improved our ability to manage and interact appropriately with him. I would highly recommend her services. We had Jennifer come and help us with our rescue dog, Barney. We loved her holistic approach and patient, positive methods. We have happily referred several friends to her and plan on having her come back occasionally to do some “tricks” classes with him. She’s going to teach him how to play tic-tac-toe with us!!

We hired Jennifer to work with our doodle (and me) to prepare for the arrival of a grandbaby — we were concerned that our generally well behaved three year old dog stayed well behaved when the baby arrived. Working with Jennifer was fun, had impactful results, and had a positive impact in our pet’s life!Jennifer coached me (in two remote, Zoom sessions, concluding with a third, outdoor, in-person, safely ‘socially distant’ session) on how to have our pup feel comfortable in the presence of a crying infant and adults focused on that infant.

Jennifer helped me reinforce the strong bond with our dog based on mutual love, trust and respect . We focused time on practicing a wide range of basic to advanced cues including “Leave It”, “Come” and “Loose Leash Walking”. We paid attention to behavior issues including barking, jumping and pulling on the leash when passing other pets or humans. The result is a well-balanced and well-mannered family member, ready for the arrival of our newest family member. And our dog did well too!

Our family loved Jennifer Maurer's technique for training our puppy Sam. Sam loved her too and was always so happy to see her. Everything she said she would teach was accomplished and we are so proud of all that Sam learned to do. We appreciated that she came to our home to teach us how to work with our puppy. We will continue to use her additional services for training as Sam gets older. 

Amazing experience. My wife and I just got a new puppy and Jennifer basically landed in our laps! She is an amazing attentive trainer who helps so much in our dogs early development. We emailed her all hours of the evening sometimes and got a response or call instantly. Also during quarantine we were able to do zoom classes which was helpful as well! Can not recommend enough.

The puppy class was so essential for my puppy and myself. She taught me how to communicate with him and it really made a big difference.

Jennifer was a huge help with training our new puppy, Piper. She is professional, flexible and she knows what she is talking about. She had the whole family participate and made training fun! Jen is an excellent dog trainer. I could not have trained by sweet, stubborn basset hound without her. Jen is always professional and truly cares about both dogs and owners. When my puppy had emergency behavioral issues, Jen came over to help without hesitation even though it was last minute and an inconvenient time. I have a 6 month old puppy who just completed the Puppy Group Classes. This is my first puppy of my own, and I knew I cared very much about having a dog that was trained and well-mannered, but I wanted the training to be positive. Jennifer was recommended to me by a friend so I researched her and her philosophy seemed like a great fit. My puppy, Scottie, and I enjoyed her 6 week course very much! I have learn tips and tricks for how I should teach and reinforce training with Scottie, and habits that I need to break to be the best leader for Scottie. Scottie loved getting to play with other puppies, and the challenge of learning new things!

Jen is so fantastic! She was so patient with us and helped our new rescue dog marshal get used to our home. She taught both of our dogs the basics to be good canine citizens. We are so appreciative of her kind and thoughtful approach with each dog. I loved that it was all positive! She was basically training us not the dogs lol.

Jen is an amazing trainer! Our 3-year-old Yorkie (Sofie) was having separation anxiety and a few other behavioral issues. Jen was very patient and kind as she trained us and our pup. We really appreciated Jen’s option for private lessons at our home. 😊 The techniques worked great and were fun!
